WORKSHOP ASSISTANT APPLICATION FOR THE 2023 PALM SPRINGS PHOTO FESTIVAL WORKSHOP PROGRAM
Now in our 18th year, the Palm Springs Photo Festival workshop program is an established event for emerging & professional photographers.
Each Workshop Assistant is paired with one of the renowned, world-class photographers at the festival. In addition to being the photographer’s main assistant on shooting days, workshop assistants act as the liaison between the photographer, the workshop class, and Festival Management. Responsibilities include assisting the photographer, pre-festival communication with enrolled students, transporting class and gear to/from shooting location(s), managing workshop and festival equipment, and helping to keep the workshop on schedule. Workshop Assistant positions are the most sought after at the festival, and preference is usually given to candidates who have volunteered at the festival at least once before, however any candidate demonstrating strong assisting knowledge and experience will be considered.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Experience working a professional photographer or assistant for working pros
- Professional, motivated and reliable
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Knowledgeable and experienced using current camera systems and basic grip equipment
- Working knowledge of current flash and continuous (LED) lighting systems
- MAC proficient with advanced skill using Google Docs, Dropbox, MS Excel and MS Word (Photoshop & Lightroom & Camera Raw experience preferred)
- Ability to anticipate & solve problems
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience working under pressure
- Superior oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- 25 years of age or older with a valid Driver’s License (required to operate rented vehicles)
- Comfortable working early mornings and long days
- Availability to drive vans with valid driver’s license is a requirement. Experience driving trucks is a plus
- Fully available Monday, October 9th – Friday, October 13th to be in Palm Springs
- Ready and available to assist in load-out from Palm Springs on Friday, October 13.
